A paraglider is designed to glide efficiently and climb in thermals. A parakite is smaller, faster and uses a reflex profile, so it stays stable in stronger wind and is built for flying low along dunes, ridges and beaches rather than going cross-country.
A parakite is a foot-launched wing, so the same rules and training requirements as paragliding generally apply. In Australia, talk to your local school or club about the right training and membership before flying. We can point you in the right direction.
Parakites are best suited to pilots with solid ground-handling skills and some paragliding or speedflying experience. Beginner-friendly parakites are designed to be gentle and forgiving. Training is strongly recommended.
Start with your all-up weight (you plus harness and gear) and pick the size whose certified range puts you comfortably inside the band. Smaller sizes are faster and suit stronger wind; larger sizes float in lighter breeze. Newer pilots should size up. Send us your weight and home site for a recommendation.
Most riders use a light, minimalist harness designed for speedflying or parakiting, such as the Ozone Atak 2. A light harness keeps you agile for touch-and-goes and ground handling.
