Swing Sonic RS Parakite: Specs, RAST and the Wave RS Compared

Quick answer: The Swing Sonic RS is Swing's all-round parakite, announced in August 2026. It comes in four sizes (15, 18, 21 and 24 m² flat) with 52 cells, Swing's RAST internal structure, a reflex profile derived from the Scorpio RS, and wingtip stabilo steering on every size. It's type-tested to EN 926-1 (a load test) and has no EN A–D class. Swing's lighter, alpine-focused parakite is the Wave RS D-Lite.

    About Swing

Swing Flugsportgeräte GmbH was founded in 1986 and is based in Landsberied, near Munich, Germany. Its signature technology is RAST (Ram Air Section Technology), an internal partition that Swing first put into a production wing in 2014 and now uses across its range.

Design features (as described by Swing)

    • RAST and sharknose: RAST internal bracing combined with a sharknose leading edge reinforced with Nitinol wires
    • Reflex profile: developed from Swing's Scorpio RS
    • Wingtip stabilo control: on all sizes, working together with the main brake
    • Mixer: tuned for pitch and yaw control, with hybrid risers (12 mm webbing A-risers, Dyneema mixer, Ronstan pulleys)
    • Canopy details: 3D shaping, mini ribs and dirt-exit openings at the trailing edge
    • Cloth: DOKDO D30 upper surface and DOKDO D20 lower surface
    • Handles and accessories: rigid neoprene-padded handles with Fidlock magnetic parking clips (Swing says these aren't load-tested and are for emergency use only), and a 3D-printed depower pod for ground handling only, not for use in flight

Swing says the Sonic RS was developed by its R&D team led by Alessio Casolla and refined on the South African coast.

Who is the Sonic RS for?

Swing describes the Sonic RS as an all-round parakite for strong-wind coastal soaring, dynamic and proximity flying, touch-and-gos and swoops. It says the larger sizes are accessible to "ambitious beginners", while the wing stays direct enough for experienced parakite pilots. Swing's manual states that it doesn't replace instruction.

    Swing Wave RS D-Lite

Swing calls the Wave RS D-Lite a "versatile parakite with focus on alpine flying", designed for experienced pilots. It uses a semi-light D-Lite construction, RAST with a reflex profile, and adjustable wingtip stabilo steering.

All sizes have 52 cells. Swing says sizes 10 and 11.5 are for skilled speedflying and parakite pilots, and sizes 13 and 15 for pilots new to parakiting or coming down from larger parakites. View the Swing Wave RS

    Harness

Swing lists the Brave 5 as the recommended harness on the Sonic RS page. The Wave RS manual specifies a GH-category harness (no rigid cross-bracing).

    Frequently asked questions

Is the Swing Sonic RS certified?

It's type-tested to EN 926-1, which is a load test. It has no EN 926-2 (A–D) flight classification. What EN 926-1 means.

    Sonic RS or Wave RS?

Swing positions the Sonic RS for coastal and strong-wind soaring and the Wave RS D-Lite for alpine and speedflying-style parakiting by experienced pilots.

    What is RAST?

RAST is Swing's patented internal partition inside the wing. Swing says it improves inflation, canopy stiffness and collapse behaviour.

Specifications are from Swing's published product pages and manuals as at October 2026 and may change. Always read the current Swing manual before flying.
